| This summer, come see what’s under the snow at Silver Star Mountain
Resort. Whether you’re into birding, hiking, mountain biking or
wildflower photography, there’s lots of room and fresh mountain
air to keep everyone happy.
Don’t forget to visit the pubs, great restaurants and bakery/coffee house. Go boutique shopping in the Victorian themed village. And check operating hours of the climbing wall at the National Altitude Training Centre where there’s also a well-equipped fitness centre.
Silver Star Mountain Resort is now a premiere mountain biking destination for
the province of British Columbia. Along with new trails and park features,
the Comet Six-Pack Express lift has been outfitted with roll-on bike carriers,
operating daily through the summer. After
an exhilarating downhill ride, you’ll be whisked the 1600 vertical
feet (485 meters) back to the top of the Mountain in under eight minutes.
From gentle beginner trails to gnarly single track, we have it all!
Hikers will enjoy the network of dedicated hiking trails
(no bikes on these trails) at the Resort. You can choose the quiet solitude
of forested areas or take to the open meadows with great views of Okanagan
Lake and Kalamalka Lake and vistas of the Monashee Mountain Range. You’ll
likely see black bear, ermine or mule deer and you may be lucky enough
to catch a glimpse of the more reclusive bobcat or cougar. And for entertainment,
the ground squirrel antics are priceless.
Red-tailed hawk, raven, stellar jay, hairy woodpecker and gray jay are
a few of the more common birds seen at the Resort. Birders
will also see many other varieties, some sticking to the thickets and
forested areas, while others venture into the open meadows.
To get the most out of the spectacular sub-alpine flower
show, take a guided tour with a park naturalist from Outdoor Discoveries
Nature Tours. In addition to learning about the fauna and flora, you may
hear stories about the mining heritage of the area or historical disputes
over water for orchard irrigation in the valley below. Late in the summer
Outdoor Discoveries hosts mushroom tours where you can learn all about
these fungal delicacies.
Does your dog holiday with you? Pets can stay at The Pinnacles Suite
Hotel at no additional charge. Please scoop the poop and if you forget
a leash, we’ll loan you one.
